Dr. Oleksiy Ryabchyn is a Ukrainian politician from Donetsk region. Oleksiy holds a PhD in Economics from Donetsk National University, Ukraine and an MSc in Innovation and Sustainability for International Development, SPRU, University of Sussex, UK. In October 2014 was elected to the Verkhovna Rada (Parliament of Ukraine) on the party list of Batkivshchyna. He chairs the subcommittee on Energy Efficiency of the Energy Committee. Alex represented Ukraine in Conferences of the Parties to the UNFCCC in Paris, Marrakesh and Bonn. He is a permanent negotiator with Energy Community on the issues of energy efficiency. He is focused on promoting green economy, renewables, fighting climate change as well as and supporting 17 displaced universities that fled from Donbas and Crimea because of a military conflict. He co-chairs the “Green power shift” inter-factional caucus aimed at awareness raising and enforcing the political discourse on the sustainable development and green agenda. He has registered and lobbied several e-mobility development initiatives at Verkhovna Rada.

While working in FRSC, Emmanuel pioneered the advocacy for Non-motorised Transportation, he was the Secretary of the National Stakeholders Committee on Bicycle Transportation, a committee that developed the first ever National Cycling Policy and Strategy for Nigeria, He is also a member of different committees which are pioneering the development of policies, standards and manuals on pedestrian, cycling and mobility for People with Disability in Nigeria. Emmanuel in presently engaged with different international organisations like the United National Environmental Program Kenya and Institute for Transport and Development Policy, New York, EU transport Committee, Sub Sahara Africa Transport Program (SSATP) which are working on the non-motorised transportation policy for Nigeria, a project being coordinated by the Federal Ministry of Transportation. In his nearly two decades of service with the Government of Nigeria through the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Emmanuel worked in various capacities at the National Headquarters and across the states of Nigeria including as Head of Unit, Non-Motorised Transportation, Staff Officer, Traffic Engineering, Head of road safety State Public Education office in Kwara State, Editorial Board Member of the Voice of Safety Magazine, a publication of FRSC. Abuja City Representative, Urban Mobility Innovation Index (UMii) project with 33 world cities participating and being coordinated by International Association of Public Transport (UITP) in collaboration with the Dubai Government, an ongoing project. Having EV as his main focus, he quickly developed a large portfolio consisting of various kinds of EV projects. Relevant projects include the development of a fast charging network in China and Singapore, the development of public and semi public charging infrastructure (fast and slow) in the Netherlands, market surveys of various European EV markets, partnering strategies for OEMs, and total cost of ownership calculations and implications for electrifying various car and bus fleets.

During my participation in the FLEX Program I got the global view on the world and its issues. With the introduction of Sustainable Development Goals I focused on SDG 4, 11, 12,17 and started off my own initiatives. Since 2015 I began working with youth to promote, discuss and invent the ways of being aware and responsible citizen and make choices that would assist sustainable ways of living and business. Among the initiatives and organizations I am participating in are Ukrainian Integration Movement, World Youth Alliance, U-Reports, European Youth Parliament, AIESEC, Council of Europe. One of the most ultimate approaches is SDG 4.7- Global Citizenship Education, under this topic it became possible to enable the youth to think in terms of Sustainable Development and be inspired by it. In 2017 I became the youth representative in UNESCO-APCEIU GCED conference and workshop in Seoul, Korea.
